Ísafjörður doesn’t have a shopping district so much as it has this one street. Aðalstræti has a handful of shops where you can find things like hand-knit sweaters, puffin magnets, and Icelandic bath salts. Several of the buildings are historic, and a couple cafes make it a good mid-morning stop.
Rainbow Path

A short walk from the harbor, this colorful pedestrian path was painted in support of LGBTQ+ visibility and inclusion. The bright rainbow stripes cut through a portion of the central square and have become one of the most photographed spots in town. While it’s not a destination in itself, the path makes for a quick, meaningful photo stop and reflects Iceland’s progressive attitude toward queer rights. It’s located near the center of town and pairs well with a walk through the nearby shops and cafés.

Whether or not you buy into the folklore, the view from the top over the fjord is worth the climb. Once you get there, It takes about 30 minutes round trip depending on your fitness level. No shade, so don’t forget sunblock even if it's cold. Even if you don’t make the hike, it’s a fun local legend to know about as you admire the Troll Seat from the ship’s upper decks.

The only microbrewery in the Westfjords makes it an easy sell. Seating is limited, but if you grab a spot inside or on the back patio, you’ll get fjord views with your beer. The menu changes depending on what they’ve brewed recently—expect IPA, dark ales, and some seasonal weirdness. Flights are a good option if you want to sample a bit of everything. Its location right near the cruise dock makes it a perfect last stop of the day.

Play Area Near the Ísafjörður Culture House

Next to the Ísafjörður Culture House is a fun, kid-friendly outdoor play area that includes a slide, a built-in trampoline, and even a good-sized zipline. It’s free to use and open to the public. The zipline and trampoline are designed for children but sturdy enough for older kids, and adults as well. This compact but thoughtfully designed playground is a great stop for families traveling with kids who need to burn off energy before or after an excursion. It’s located near the Culture House.
Observation Deck (Útsýnisstaður)

Just above the town, accessible by a short uphill walk, the Ísafjörður Observation Deck—known locally as Útsýnisstaður—offers one of the best panoramic views in the entire Westfjords.
