Explore the history of President John F. Kennedy's life and legacy at the Sixth Floor Museum, located in the former Texas School Book Depository. While it wasn’t our favorite museum, history buffs and folks who lived through the historic events may find it very interesting.

Note that is is advisable to book tickets for this popular museum in advance. You can do so on their website or through a tour with one of our partners like Viator or Get Your Guide.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

A short drive from downtown will allow you to enjoy the beauty of over 66 acres of meticulously landscaped gardens and seasonal flower displays. The majority of the original site of the gardens was the estate of Everette and Nell DeGolyer. Touring their historic home is one of the highlights of a visit to the site. A new visitors center was opened in late 2022.

Check the website for special events at the Dallas Arboretum like the annual Holiday at the Arboretum and the Summer Thursday concert series.



Dallas Museum of Art

Immerse yourself in a diverse collection of art spanning centuries and cultures at the Dallas Museum of Art. The vast collection includes art from all corners of the globe spanning from ancient mediterranean art to contemporary masters. Some of the masterpieces on display include Monet’s The Seine at Lavacourt, numeros Cézanne still life paintings, and Rodin’s, Sculptor and his Muse.

While this is one of the best free things to do in Dallas, it is recommended to secure a free ticket in advance online when planning your visit.
