Residents of Sydney have a love affair with the beach. They pack into the sandy oceanside coves during the sunny Southern Hemisphere winter days. When traveling we seldom take a beach day. We’d rather be on the go, exploring something else in the city. Living in Southern California, we have all the beach time we could ever want back home.

A great way to see some of Sydney’s magnificent beaches is to take the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk. The 1.5 mile (2.5 km) walk takes about ninety minutes. During the hike, you will walk along sandstone cliffs and visit three of Sydney’s best beaches.

North Bondi Beach - Sydney Australia

How To Get To Bondi Beach on the Bus

From central Sydney, the easiest way to reach Bondi Beach is by bus to Bondi Beach from Sydney via Bondi Junction; it drops you near the north end of Bondi Beach, Sydney NSW. Follow the promenade toward the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk trailhead to start this classic Sydney coastal walk.

We took the bus to the northern end of Bondi Beach. From a bus stop near Williams Park, we walked down a brief staircase to the sandy shore. We followed the paved promenade across the famous beach ending at the southernmost point.

Bondi to Bronte Walk

This cliff-hugging path is the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk—about 1.5 miles of views, rock platforms, and landmarks like Bondi Icebergs Club Sydney. It’s mostly paved with gentle stairs and photo stops, making it one of the best coastal walks in Sydney for quick, high-reward scenery.

Here you will find a staircase to the start of the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk.

Bondi Icebergs Pool - Sydney Australia

Just around the bend, you will see the Bondi Icebergs Pool. The Icebergs Club is a nearly 100-year-old swimmers club started by Bondi lifeguards looking to stay fit in the offseason. The Oceanside pool can be accessed by non-members for an affordable flat fee. There is a small museum if you’re interested in learning more about the history of the pool and Icebergs.

As the path continues along the shore the city of Sydney seems to disappear leaving you alone with the sounds of the waves crashing into the sandstone cliffs. The paved path hugs the cliffside rounding the tip of Mackenzies Point. Eventually, you begin to get a peek at some clifftop homes across the bay. This is Tamarama Point.

Tamarama Beach - Sydney Australia

Stop at Tamarama Beach

Tamarama is a natural pause on the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk—dip down to the sand via the stairs or stay on the boardwalk for sweeping cliff views. Facilities and a sheltered cove make it an easy break before the final leg to Bronte along this Sydney coastal walk.

When you reach the Tamarama Lifesaving Club building you can choose to take the staircase down to the sand to cut across to the other side or stay on the paved horseshoe-shaped boardwalk. The hidden cove that is Tamarama Beach is less popular than nearby Bondi Beach but no less stunning.

Tamarama Beach - Tamarama SLSC - Sydney Australia

Climbing again at the southern point of the beach the coastal walk continues. This time the view is a little less scenic following Tamarama Marine Drive, then Bronte Marine Drive. The enjoyable view is out to the ocean where if you're lucky and visiting at the right time of year you could be treated to a whale sighting. A break in the white fence opens a path to the end of our walk, Bronte Beach

End at Bronte Beach

Bronte Beach in Sydney wraps the route with a wide sandy cove, ocean baths, and grassy space to relax after your hike. From here you can catch a bus back to the city or continue on the Bronte to Bondi Walk if you want more coastline.

Bronte Beach is situated in another gorgeous cove with an extensive sandy shoreline to lay out your beach towel and enjoy.

From here we were able to catch another bus that took us back to central Sydney.
